My $0.02, as having both a 7 and 3 yo... and just having flown in J with the 7yo... skip the kids meal. As someone above mentioned, it's nothing special. I usually get a beef or chicken for my kids, then grab some potato chips for them in the walk-up bar. My kids are not that picky, but they also don't like typical "kids food" (e.g. mac and cheese).

The short rib or chicken dishes offered to you on this flight are both good, and I think most kids would enjoy them.

They'll be interested in the sundae the most, anyway. So what does it even matter? HA!
