You can have a reservation which is ‘on hold’ and not yet paid for or otherwise confirmed. Immigration may look to see that you have an actual paid and confirmed ticket, or which the ticket number is the easiest way to do it.

For most travellers these days a ‘reservation’ and ‘ticket’ is one and the same, but just make sure the ticket number appears on the itinerary.
