There have been several times that I booked many months out, and later a conference or homecoming or whatever is announced and rates go thru the roof.

And of course I've been on the other end, where a familiar hotel that might be $150 one week bumps up to $300, but what can you do? Other than stay farther away, or try to reschedule.
