Generic Homewood Suite - Functional
Location The property is located in a somewhat new area (the hotel is ~ 1 year old). It is quite close to the I-15. Around the hotel there is not much within walking distance, as there are just offices and appartments. There are some great mountain views from the different sides of the hotel. Check In Arrived late in the evening, and was helped directly. Just the usual check-in procedures and provided with 2 bottles of water as my Elite benefit. Other than that, nothing much. Room The room was ok, since it was rather new, it looked maintained and welcoming with quite some natural light. The design is on the modern and contemporary side - simple and functional.Size of the room was ok - slightly smaller compared to other Homewood Suites that I've stayed before. One obvious difference is there was no separate dining table and working desk., while my pervious Homewood Suite experience, it was big enough to accomodate a separate 4 person dining area and a working desk with still quite some space. The room faced a highway (I had requested for one that faced the inner terrace or a quite road). The noise was not too bad as the highway only got busy from around 7 am till 8 pm. Other than that, outside noise level was ok. The only noise level that became at times irritating is the separate air conditioning unit. Even at the low settings, everytime when the cold compressor kicked in, it was like some huge pump working. Bed was comfortable and the kitchenette facilities were in working condition. Water and temperature control for the shower was good.Internet was ok - there was no real difference in speed and quality between premium and complimentary. Although one very irritating feature is that you have to log in everyday - since the login was only valid for 24 hours. This is quite annoying as it can be when you are working, suddenly you lose connection. Not sure why the hotel as a long stay property not have one where you have to log in after 7 days or at least 5 days again. There were quite a number of chargers around the room especially around the bed. Dining Breakfast:Compared to previous Homewood Suite breakfast, the variation here was on the limited side, especially in the weekends. Luckily the quality of it seems ok.Evening Social:Compared to the Homewood Suite Albany, NY, I would say the Evening Social at this property was obviously minimal effort and cost at best. Mainly carbs and some simple greens (plain lettuce) and a simple soup. It was only 1 day per week that they would put out a type of meat and that's it. As for beverages, it's either water or 1 type of juice and for the alcoholic drinks, you will have to request this from the associate (not free pour as the HS Albany). Not sure why the offerings here at this property is so limited/minimal cost, but most probably it could be due to the low occupancy at this property compared to the one at Albany where it's always quite busy. Also not sure if it is due to the lack of a F&B manager which existed at the Albany property and was proud of making sure guests were taken care of. (In the weekends, they usually even had mimosa and made to order omelets) Service Staff:The staff in general were friendly and helpful. The only small complain would be on housekeeping. I am never sure if they ever changed the bed linens during my whole stay there, even after putting the request to change. By standard operation, it should be changed every 5 days, but I never felt that it was.Laundry:There is an onsite laundry whic is $1.25 for wash and $0.75 for drying. Was actually surprised by this as at my previous stay, it was complimentary (which I think is fair especially for long stay guests since you are already paying so much)Fitness:The fitness room was large and spacious, however especially the Elliptical cycle, they seemed to have gotten the cheaper model as it makes a lot of mechanical noise when using it. Luckily for me the fitness room was most of the time empty while I used it, so there was not much incovenience to other guests. Overall All in all, an OK property especially from function point of view. For the price paid, I would say it is not as much value as compared to the HS Albany property especially the price was comparable, but the facilities and service received back was much more compared to this particular property.
