I have stayed recently at the LM. I can update on the following: As a Platinum you receive two items of Laundry now not pressing, which is more beneficial to me. The Breakfast continues to be great, on par with the SGS, however the SGS has the best Smoked Salmon in the city......I was upgraded to a beautiful suite, yes only 1 bathroom however a newish toto toilet seat with warm water spritzes and a nice warm seat. The new day lounge is lovely with juices, coffees, sparkling waters etc.....a good place to hang your hat when you have down time. I was also offered free conference room time. Their happy hour is one of the best, they are not using rot gut alcohols to make their drinks.....they are using the same alcohols they make when they sell drinks and the same size glasses etc. Some other hotels use different quality alcohols and glass sizes....Im a drinker, I notice. The new "spread" at the end of the bar is more clubbish....cheese and meats and olives etc....I never use a lounge for dinner, I am a believer that dinner is dinner and snacks are snacks. If I want a meal, I will pay for it.
I for one like the SGS area because it direct connects with the Skytrain and Bangkok traffic is tough. That said I very much enjoy the diversity of the area surrounding the LM. I LOVE stepping out the door and having 5 foot massage places directly across the street. I like that little Japan Town is just 4 blocks away. I love that I can grab a bowl of Ramen noodles or eat many varieties of Japanese food within two blocks. I like that the night bazaar is there in case I need quick gifts. I like that the river is only a 5 minute taxi drive south and usually has little traffic after 7PM. In Suriwong you are perfectly placed IMHO because you can get the sky train in 2 blocks, River down the road and many food options abound. Sukhumvit these days is a bit of a mess, SGS has construction sights on BOTH sides of the hotel currently and finding those little places in that area is harder and harder as rents have risen and they have all closed....LM is still in the middle of it all. As far as the Plaza Athenee, Wireless road is traffic hell and there not much in the area....Though their dinner Buffet is impressive on weekends as the is Marriott Marquis on Soi 22.
At the LM, the old manager Christian used to walk around several times per day talking to every one, making sure all was well. The new manager Mr Killian also does this. Every morning he was at breakfast and afternoons he was walking around and every evening happy hours, he comes to talk to the plats. He seems a kind capable manager. Overall, the changes to the LM are quite positive and for now they are my go to hotel. Safe travel to all, you cannot go wrong with any of these places. Cheers!
