Ansett placed in voluntary administration
Ansett Airlines has been placed in voluntary administration.
Breaking from a board meeting in Auckland this evening, Air New Zealand executives made their announcement.
Ansett Holdings and some of its subsidiary companies will move into voluntary administration to enable the company to keep functioning while its options are considered.
At least one offer received involves a group of Ansett pilots with backing from European banks.
Air New Zealand says the bid is one of a number of options developed today.
While those options are investigated, PriceWaterhouse Coopers will take control of the company.
