I used to rent for work in Mexico. I would take the insurance. Each and every rental there was a new dent, smash, etc on the car. Some I knew about (I got hit by a truck in a parking lot, I got hit by debris falling off a truck on the highway, the car was broken into, etc.)

Other times I didn't know about it. Some huge dent would just appear on the quarter panel at check out.

Each time the conversation started with consternation and concern "Sir, it appears there is some damage......" and lots of grimacing. Then I would remind them that I bought insurance. A big smile would appear and it would be 'No Problem!"

I always take the insurance. Not taking it is almost a guarantee that some damage will show up.
