After a a bit of help.

Flying business/first YYZ-CLT-MIA next week and the first leg is on a CRJ-900 connecting on to a (internationally configured) 757. I want to travel hand baggage only but will have the full size so wondering about whether it will fit on the CRJ?

if not, I assume I will end up gate checking it? And if so, where do I collect it? Is it on the jet bridge at CLT?

only reason I care is that the subsequent flight in to MIA lands at 00.40 and I’d like to be able to just go straight to hotel and not wait at a carousel.

Any my help from those familiar with the process would be great!!
