The choices facing AN and the results that its customers and employees will have to deal with are not pleasant ones. In the Canadian context we lost a great airline and now have a monopoly in the domestic "full-service" airline sector. As with many situations of decreased competition service has and is continuing to suffer. Meals are being cut, busy signals on phone lines, long waits to redeem points. On the meals front a 4 hour long flight was recently listed as "snack & beverage", it left at 10 am. Even J class are getting only cashews on 2 1/4 hour flights.

While we did get to keep all of our points/miles and employees got to keep their jobs, the latter are now being progressively laid off and AC is so dominant that it is doubtful another full service airline will be able to rise up and compete. As insensitive as this may seem it may have been better in some ways for CP to have gone bankrupt, perhaps someone other than AC could have come in to pick up the pieces. Maybe Star Alliance will come and help, I think OneWorld is not happy with having such limited access to the Canadian market. Good luck to everyone concerned!
