Most Australians will blame Air NZ or ‘New Zealand’ in general for Ansetts failure, which is a pretty simplistic view, but one that can fit nicely in a newspaper headline banner or on a 30 second TV news spot, while the reality is far more complex.

When anything fails that people feel passionate about (and I think we all do here, regardless of what side of the Tasman we live on), its natural to look for someone to blame, so Australians blame NZ and NZers blame Australia, meanwhile the likes of Richard Branson and CK from SQ sit back and must surely be looking at us all like a bunch of 12 year olds. Some of the comments here would seem to back that up.

I am as disappointed in this whole saga as anyone, and my friends who work at AN are beside themselves, but if the best thing to do is close AN, restructure a new airline out of the ashes and re-employee the people who have done a good job at AN and proved their worth, then maybe in the long run that’s the best thing to do.

You have to ask yourself, when all the senior management and Government officials in this sage have finished playing ‘masters of the universe’ will they be the ones that suffer, as a result of job losses, higher domestic and international airfares and reduced competition in our part of the world?

Absolutely bloody disgusting.
