FA's buckling in usually indicates the boarding door is shut. Your option to exit has all but been foreclosed.

I gather if they can open the door and open the window exits, then they are good to go. Not saying it is right, or safe, but that is what it is. In an emergency it is their job to direct people what to do and where to go, they aren't going to carry people on their shoulders out of the plane.
