Ah, nice.
In AA PE now.
My opinion: soft product on AA sucks. No PDB, no champagne/sparkling, it's basically economy class service with a nicer seat, nicer blanket/pillow and a marginally nicer meal. The menu had some different wine for PE, but apparently that was not available and they just served whatever came in the same bulk 1.5L bottles for economy.
The IFE on AA is nicer and has a better selection. The seat cushion is also better, on JAL the seat cushion is so thin I usually end up asking for an extra pillow or two to use for a seat. Pitch on JAL is better, and the recliner is much nicer. The soft product on JAL is better, though the food options can sometimes be odd to some. Also JAL keeps their cabins ridiculously hot, AA keeps their cabin ridiculously cold. I actually prefer the cold... But that's me.
Overall in terms of PE products in oneworld I'd rate:
QF > JL > CX > BA > AA
That said, I actually prefer AA here because (1) I don't care much for soft product (2) I prefer a colder cabin (3) I prefer the availability of 12oz coke zero (4) I prefer lazy flight attendants since they generally don't bother me to do things like open the window before landing and generally don't make excessive announcements. But I realize other (most?) people have different priorities. With access to F lounges I usually skip all in flight meals and sleep/work on the flight, so here AAs lack of service works well for me.
