"Early check out" could mean that the previous occupants left at 11 pm but paid for the night, so that it really was more like a very late checkout but the hotel collected more money, with you paying for the came night that the previous occupants had already paid. Not bad for the hotel even if it was inconvenient or unpleasant for the person cleaning the room.
