The flight may be quite full, impacting seating allocation. They will hold back around 4 seats which show as occupied but are actually just blocked to allow airport to control allocation for wheelchair pax etc. If you post the flight date I am happy to use ExpertFlyer to view the current actual seat map (or PM me).
Thai-Kiwi, thank you also for your advice. I've checked myself on Expert flyer and the cabin is currently about half full (on an assigned seating basis) on my date of travel (8th November), including a couple of window seats available in the middle of the cabin, which is what I'm angling for. Howeve, your suggestion to email the Thai Auckland office is a good one, which I will try next if TPJ's hack using the SSR code via the TA doesn't work.
