When Airmiles were supposed to be expiring soon, I had to burn a number of " soon-to-be-expiring" points.
My first take away was how few properties were available when I needed them, and how poor the quality was.
My second was how poor the value was.
I did use them for a Holiday Inn Express in Bangkok, just so that I got some value out of them.
I was not given any benefits as an IHG elite member, nor was I given any credit for the nights stayed.
( Of course, subsequently the expiry policy was revoked).
