My Andiamo Valoroso 30" is dying : any suitable replacements out there?
I'll start by saying if they still made the exact same luggage, I'd consider it even at full retail. Mine has been stellar, checked on more than 175 flights so far and still kicking. Ironically it took only one flight on United without a priority tag to break a wheel housing and the telescopic handle. Re-installed the wheel housing with steel 1/2" carriage bolts, and fixed the handle. Now one of the wheels has split, probably from luggage sorter impact. Fabric corner on top is worn through, showing the steel spring reinforcement used. It's still going, but I may need to find a replacement soon.
Things that I am looking for in a new bag:
1 - Build quality. Really like the hard polycarbonate panels inside the soft hinged sheel and the first responder zippers on the Valoroso. Those cheap skinny nylon zippers are always the first thing to go on my other luggage pieces.
2- Size. I can't go back to a smaller bag, it has to be 30". I once brought back 2 SUV front suspension A-arms in the Valorsoso, in their original boxes. Enough said.
3- Ideally no spinner wheels. Valoroso has 2 fixed wheels and I am fine with that, seems more robust to me.
4-Ideally soft shell. I have seen to many hard shelled cases destroyed on the belt to feel confident about them.
So what's the best substitute currently for sale? Briggs? Travelpro? Tumi?
