It should be the same even if different airlines, because you'll be dumped out in the same place. If you're already checked in and just need your bag tags for your UA connection, the counter right outside of customs can still help. Just note that if there are a lot of misconnects, I've seen the line there be insanely long; you'd be better off walking the 3 min to T3 and using a kiosk there to print your bag tag.
