She is on a single PNR, but I think separate tickets. I'm considering booking AK 6326 KUL-LGK at 20:50 beforehand (i.e., now) as insurance - it's only USD108 for both of us. (Or OD 2212 at 19:40) Are there any issues having a second identical itinerary? I'm only aware of restrictions of doing this on the same carrier. Our bags will be checked through, so presumably would go on MH 1450 or come the next morning on MH flight? I'm OW Emerald, but she doesn't have status - not sure if that's relevant. TIA
I am slightly confused. If she's on one PNR (or two, doesn't matter for MH/KA), bags will/can be checked all the way to LGK if you are flying to LGK on MH. Both MH and KA/CX still check bags all the way through on separate tickets provided the beyond flight is a OW carrier.
I wouldn't book on AK as that means you have to lug your bags from KLIA1 (T1) to KLIA2 (T2) - you need to either take a train (RM$2) or a short taxi ride. OD is slightly better but that means you have to re-check your bags at KUL. I wouldn't advise skipping the KUL-LGK leg for 2 reasons:
- If this is a roundtrip originating from HKG/ICN, your return will be canceled as you no-showed for your KUL-LGK (if it's all in 1 ticket)
- You will have problems locating your bags - it won't be on the MH 1450 if you no-show (and probably delay the flight because they'd need to locate your bag and remove it).
I find KA and to some extent MH pretty lenient on accommodating pax if their incoming flight is delayed, but YMMV.
