I don't know if there is a time limit on those paper receipts for the SBS if the inspectors board - I think I read somewhere it's one hour, but the MTA website doesn't seem to specify. An alternative is to take a *different* bus from the one you took to the airport, the free transfer will be good for 2 (+ IME) hours from initial boarding.
