This is exactly what I have done, though I am not even a new GGL member. I just received a renewal email which reminded me about the benefit, and thought I would go ahead and make a nomination and make use of the benefit. I like the BAEC programme and though I don't make use of its benefits as much as I might, it's nice to accept an offer from time to time.
I am starting to understand now how the list works, though I really don't understand at all why it works that way. If the only purpose of the list is to add a partner card, why can't I take someone off, who hasn't been issued a partner card? The partner cards are already restricted. They only appear occasionally and you can't give them out more than once. Why is it even a two-step process? Why not just assign the partner cards, and then the restriction is applied so you can't change it for six months. But the partner cards don't get issued that often I think so that is just confusing as well.
I have the partner cards and they can't be assigned to anyone.
I feel really pretty frustrated. I understand that it is a programme run on BA's terms, and no doubt somewhere in the very long list of legal documents that constitute the programme, are various clauses which when pieced together, explain that I can't use the partner cards and that this is within the terms of the programme. And I do understand that whether I have a Household Account and have read the Household Account part or not, that all the HHHA terms still apply to me.
But legal status aside, I don't understand the purpose is by BA of restricting the list. I think that if it is restricted, there should be another place which works to autocomplete the BAEC details and link back to the person's account (the Travel Companions does record the number, but then it doesn't come up again when you make a booking).
I am still not certain if the advice in this thread is right or not. It doesn't "feel" right that using the tool to store details for bookings, should prevent the benefit from being used at all. Might try and get another agent though not very optimistic. It is not the end of the world but it is a rubbish piece of detail and I really do feel like this restriction is targeted at someone else, trying to do something which I am not trying to do and can't work out what it is.
