Just like UA is doing with PE.
I guess, based on that theory, they shouldn't sell concert tickets until the day of the show just in case the Artist is sick & can't perform or the venue burns down!
Aircraft swaps can also occur within hours of departure due to mechanical issues. There is no "guarant(y)ee" that the aircraft and cabin/seat you have a ticketed reservation on will fly at that date & time. The airline has an obligation to get you to your destination and has provisions for appropriate compensation in the event of irrops. I would refer you to the Contract of Carriage to see where a "guarantee" is specifically outlined. No seat is guaranteed and you can be reseated from/to/in any cabin on any flight at the airlines sole discretion.
In all my years of flying with AS. I have been downgraded exactly once with an aircraft swap from an E175 F to a Q400 Y. I was appropriately compensated. Of course, as a Gold 75K I can choose any seat, exit row or premium for no cost. In the unlikely event of a downgrade to a standard Y my expectation for compensation would be exactly what it cost me. $0 I would still enjoy a complimentary alcoholic beverage and a digi-player if appropriate for the flight length.
While usually in F, I don't have an issue with any seat in Y on AS especially considering they have few flights in excess of 6 hours. I am usually flying with my Partner so one of us is always in the middle and that is perfectly fine too.
I believe in a little give and take and it has always been my expierience that AS has given me a lot more than anticipated with a human element that, from time to time, has turned a blind eye to the strict enforcement of the rules and regulations, for my loyalty.
There is a lot more to an airline than the seat you sit in between here & there. I think a lot of travelers forget that. Yes, some will argue that for non-elites AS isn't favourable anymore and I understand that. Please fly with the airline that best suits your needs. I encourage you all to do that after analyzing all of the aspects of each carrier objectively. Personally, suggesting to move away from AS because there is an unlikely possibility you may not get the Premium Seat you paid for during a trasitional period of integrating an Airbus Fleet into the fold is a little extreme. Just my thoughts!
