Many years ago, when flying SJC-SNA quite often to visit my child, I once accidentally booked a Monday evening return instead of a Sunday evening one.
I didn't notice until showing up a SNA before the flight on Sunday. The nice TA changed the flight for me and I even got a single side seat on the baby jet

Ah, but that was during those years when they were losing money.
It might have helped that I flew every other Sunday on that route. Of course, the issue in the current case is how is AA supposed to determine the OP made an error and didn't intend to book the flights booked? I wish for OP to get the schedule change that would probably be needed to enable them to resolve this.
