I'd call and just ask very nicely for some consideration; DM via twitter also a good idea.

So strange things can happen; especially when you readily admit how dumb you are...

It seems as though the recent clarification about putting paxs on other carriers is an AA mgt method of cracking down on "exceptions" such as what was granted to your brother. In your case you are a PP and LT PLT so that gives you some "clout" with the airline. Also, I assume if one catches the mistake right away AA might be willing to cut one some slack.

The OP has tried calling and reaching out to the Twitter team with no success. I suppose another call won't hurt.
