OK, well that is slightly different, the specifics do matter here. Firstly, it could be 2 rows for Golds on the AMS service, unlikely for FCO except on Mondays out of FCO. If it is an off peak FCO and 3 rows of CE then there may not be a Gold block at all. There is still the chance of being removed from row 1, but it is less certain than on longhaul, depends a bit on the timings and equipment changes too. But unlike with longhaul it will usually be possible to get the seat switched at 72 hours, plus the remaining Gold passenger should be able to move the new Silver back to 1A from their side of the booking should there be a move.
