It has taken him this long?
My analysis of the situation is that Ansett Management has been in continual denial about its managerial problems. Even now it is trying to blame CASA.
No matter how it you look at the situation the fact remains - Ansett had systemic problems and was flying with unsafe planes and in doing so putting people's lives at risk.
The responsibility for this rests squarely at the feet of Ansett management. It is their
responsibility to put in place the systems and procedures necessary to ensure that their planes were airworthy, even if that cost $$$. They failed to do so. I don't think it appropriate to be targetting a few maintenance workers when the blame rests at a higher level.
The question has to be asked - who in Senior Management failed to take responsibility for the maintenence problems and act accordingly? That person should resign immediately.
cheers Peter
