Is BA really an optimum spot for the eclipse? I was under the impression it was on the tail end of the eclipse and rural Argentina or the Chilean coast would be better viewing. I've done some basic research into Rio Cuarto for relative ease of access and outskirts of Mendoza to do a combo trip.
It is not. No totality in the City. Furthermore, the odds of a clear sky nearby aren't particularly lovely. I wouldn't put a bet on the coast of Chile either, although winter is probably a better bet than summer, because either there's a storm or there is not (as opposed to the summer coastal fog that drifts in/out @ LSC and surrounds).
The purpose of my post is that those considering an eclipse trip that might include Buenos Aires should consider lodging sooner rather than later.
