They really are not in the business of selling discount coach for the main purpose of letting people then fly in J for 1/10th the price.
You're on the flight anyway so they make what that pays and have either the room to sell last minute business, let high tier members get upgrades, etc., or reduce the service effort and premium food costs by having an empty seat.
