I’ll subtly refine this and say that on North America routes, I think AM is competitive to DL up front too. Their 737 J seats are slightly better than the domestic F norm on DL, and the catering is pretty equivalent these days too. DL F in NA is nothing to write home about, IMHO.
Intercontinental J, there’s no contest - DL service and food is way better. AM seats on the 787-9 are great and 787-8 are acceptable, and their amenity kits are really nice, but the rest of the experience is more “passable” than “good”. The price often makes up for the difference, though.
I wish I could agree with you on North American routes. But I would stand by my statement that DL wins every time. My LAX-MTY flights recently swapped from DL operated to AM operated. I so wish they would flip back.
