I have only had it happen to me once about two years ago coming back from FRA or LHR I believe but same situation, solo male on a one way return ticket (fwiw I did not have GE at that time). GE does NOT guarantee you will not get a random security screen. I believe if you read all the fine print when you apply it says something to that effect.
