We have done this a few times and it works really well - it is worth avoiding row 1 though as these generally have fixed armrests (to hold the tray tables) and raising them allows a baby to lie across the seat comfortably. Also, we have found having a small bag of essentials (wipes, drinks etc) at our feet very useful during landing and takeoff.
