Is SEZ-AUH-JFK two different awards? An agent told me that it was as it goes through a third zone, but Europe is a third zone too. The AA site just says Africa - North America has to cross the Atlantic except through HKG, and AUH-JFK crosses the Atlantic.
Middle East and Indian Subcontinent only require one award to or from the US. SEZ is in the Africa region, which requires one award ticket to/fr AUH and another between AUH and the US. The agent is right. There are options other than EY that only require 1 award ticket between Africa & the US, but since this is the EY thread I assume you are trying to book this on Etihad metal.
