After Nihiwatu, we stopped over in Canggu for one night. The taxi ride is roughly 1 hour away from Denpasar Airport. I ended up choosing The Slow as it had great reviews. Its a hip artsy place, and I would definitely recommend it.
Lunch menu
Rainbow potato salad, vegan fritters, and tuna tacos
Guava cheesecake! This is a must get at The Slow!
Hot cakes with sweet potato puree, honey drizzle. Delicious!
For dinner, we walked around Canggu, and chose Mason. I would definitely come back again as their food is very well made.
Afterwards, its time to head from DPS to SIN. I did the award ticket for Singapore Airlines, Business Class from DPS-SIN-ICN-LAX.
First flight, DPS to SIN on the 787 Business/Economy plane layout.
Business/Premium Economy/Economy set up. Just a large area of business class, and you can feel the service was rushed compared to first class, or their mini cabin business class.
Mustard crusted chicken, shrimp salad, and chocolate puff ball all on one tray. Food was average.
The seat was comfortable, but the space felt crammed compared to the 777 business class layout on my next flight.
Here it is, the 777 Mini Cabin Business Class seat, with the oblique foot rest. It was weird at first, but I got use to it. This was SIN to ICN leaving at 1:50AM.
As it is a 1:50AM flight, I chose to have breakfast right after take off, and to sleep afterwards to adjust back to Hawaii time zone. I chose the Singapore Nasi.......I will try everything once, but that was the last time as everything smelled like shrimp paste.
Fried chicken, peanuts, and lots of patties that smelled like fermented shrimp. I didn't finish it, and just wasn't my flavor profile. I declined dessert and went to sleep. After landing, we disembarked and came back 1:30 later. This time, ICN to LAX.
Satay for appetizer.
Scallop salad, delicious!
Wok fried fish; I would get this again.
Breakfast is crepe with eggs; was decent. My experience with Singapore business was great, and I would definitely fly them again. I was fortunate to fly first class to Indonesia, and compare that to Business class on the way back. Hard product on their 777 feels similar to their first class seats, except for the oblique foot wells. Food is about the same. Wine/champagne selection definitely not as good. Service is very similar to first class. And most importantly, surfboards fly free on both classes.
After LAX, I checked my surfboard as it is still in one piece. I have to mention, my original surfboard that I brought to Nihiwatu had a huge dent and broke on my first wave. I contacted Rip Curl Bali, and they flew another surfboard from Bali to Nihiwatu the next day, and this is the one I brought back home. I quickly gathered my luggage, and walked to Terminal 5 for Hawaiian Airlines. Pretty much the same exact flight as my HNL to LAX one. Food was below average, crappy wine, but great friendly crew. I don't think I would recommend Hawaiian Business Class because of their hard product. I chose the middle row with direct aisle access, but you are so close to your neighbor, even with the divider. The foot well is awkward, as I feel my foot keep on slipping outside through the hole. I do wish they didn't use the iPad as an entertainment option as you can't access it for the first 30-45 minutes of the flight, and 45 minutes prior to landing.
Hope you guys enjoy the trip report! Still deciding on my next surf destination.......maybe Christmas Islands.
