Suite upgrades are tough here because there are only 13 suites among 318 rooms. Room upgrades are therefore more common, especially for Platinum members when the hotel is at higher occupancy. This hotel often is at higher occupancy—even for its suites.

Nothing special at all? This is one of very few higher end hotels in Portland, along with perhaps only the Sentinel, the Heathman, and maybe the Kimpton River Place. I’ve stayed in many luxury hotels, and the Nines is definitely not comparable to the run of the mill full service hotels so often described in the Marriott threads. (Full service is a term of distinction used in the Marriott threads and not SPG threads because Marriott proportionally had so many fewer full services hotels.)

I’m sorry you didn’t like it, but I think the Nines is pretty special and very distinctive. Especially so for Portland.
