I use the wire loops with a screw closure now after losing, or nearly losing, tags with the leather and buckle straps. EI issue them to their card holders - a friend gave me a spare and I was so impressed I invested in a packet of 10 from Amazon. A serious investment but well worth it.

I use use tags on hand bags as it seems to smooth passage into First Wing and Group 1 queues especially if I am looking rather disheveled, which is a fairly regular occurrence.
