I believe so - from reading earlier in the thread, this is something the hotel chooses to do, even though they don't have to (i.e. I got the 1,000 points and free breakfast)
Also, did you take a picture when you are looking out from your room? What is the view you got as the most basic room?
There was no view - there was a fence blocking a view to a graveyard (!)
Do let us know how it goes for you, I'd be interested in your experience.

I did ask for an upgrade, and that's when they mentioned they were completely sold out. I did check online, and they weren't selling rooms for that night so I believe them
