That's really a subject for a different thread. And what can work depends on what you're going to after you get this sign up bonus. Ie, if you're simply going to apply for another card which needs that much spend again, then "spending ahead" (paying in advance for services like phone, internet, utilities, insurance, etc) won't work for you, while it would would work someone who's not going to pursue another signup bonus for some time after this. So that's why it's not a simple answer, and doesn't belong in a thread about a specific issue with Amex BGR 3x on gas not working.
