Ignore the time it takes as it dependent on the time of day. But $7.75 is accurate - $2.75 for the bus and subway and then $5.00 for the AirTrain

Take Uber to JFK, it will save yourself a lot of headache and stress, there is so much construction and upgrading happening on the railways in NYC delays are possible.
