RUDI - SYD-CNS is 1970 km each way. I am very new to the AN points thing too, and do not know how they work it as to whether this means a round trip fits into the 8000 points zone, or whether you need two 8000 zone upgrade certs. Tinkybelle may know more? If 16,000 I can upgrade on UA from Here to Miami or JFK or Boston or whatever, and do it a year in advance, so the UA points option is a lot 'cheaper".

So, whether 8000 or 16000 it is a lot for a few hour flight!

And we are spoilt by UA letting us use upgrades well in advance!

The only one I did I needed to allow them to take points out, and then they post you a cert good for the sector length you want. I did not keep it and do not know for sure whether or not Glen Stephens name is on it, (I recall it did have my details printed on it - like a letter) it can only be used by me, or "gifted" - someone else here may know the deal.

THEN it is a Russian roulette thing where you can't phone until 24 hours before to check on the J class. So you might end up in your case with certs if you find someone here to "gift" you the points, that may not be useable if J is full when you phone or check in.

It is hard to plan ahead with that system. I am in that boat for next week. An AN high tier might get a few more days advance play in their hands, I don't know.
