I understand the name on the passport must match the name on the ticket, but it seems 95% of the time, tickets issued without Middle Initials, let alone the full Middle Name. Dont understand what the fussy is about that CX insists to have middle name.
As long as your true first name (eg. the first item that is listed in the given name field of your passport) is a non-Chinese name then you should have no problem if you are missing the middle names. Some Hong Kongers go by an English name which is actually their middle name (as in the example below) and their Chinese name is actually their first name!

In Chinese families it is common for siblings to share the same prefix of a two-part Chinese name.

Older brother: CHAN/TAI MAN DAVID
Younger brother: CHAN/TAI WAH PETER

If a ticket is bought as CHAN/TAI then either brother could use the ticket (all that needs to be done is to change the API info at check in)! This is the kind of stuff CX is cracking down on and is mainly for revenue protection as opposed to security reasons.

IMHO, if you can't give your ticket to your sibling (or hypothetical one if you are an only child) to use, then you are fine!!

Note: You can easily get away with this at non-HK/China/Taiwan stations with non-Chinese check in agents.
