Review: The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco
Check In Upon landing in SFO, I took an Uber Pool directly to The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco in Nob Hill. When I arrived at the front of the lobby, a doorman came and opened the car for me. He offered to take my baggage, but I politely declined as I only had one carry-on suitcase. While I had indicated to the hotel prior to my arrival that I would be checking in at 3:00 PM, the hotel had failed to prepare my room in advance. This was disappointing for two reasons: I had indicated my precise arrival time, and it was the standard check-in time for the hotel (as opposed to an early check-in request). While the hotel was preparing my room, I ambled to the bar and ordered a Yamazaki highball, which was $30 including tip. Expensive, but strong. It took approximately 30 minutes for the hotel to finish preparing the room, at which point I received the keycard and rode the elevator to the floor of my room. Room Appropriate for the location of the property, the room was not extravagantly sized, but it was completely adequate for one person. The bedding was expertly set, and the lounge sofa was incredibly comfortable to lay oneself down on, with ample lighting from the perfect angle during the day to read magazines, of which there were plenty in the room. The bathroom was also adequately sized, but had nice marble flooring that added a touch of luxury. I could not find anything that felt cheap to the touch. Lighting in the bathroom was excellent, which was important since I needed to shave daily. The TV was big (46-inches) and included options for streaming, such as Netflix, which I used to consume (binge-watch) a TV series at night in the comfort of the king bed.Slippers and bathrobe rounded out the in-room amenities along with a Nespresso machine that pulled espresso from tiny aluminum capsules. Service Housekeeping service was excellent, as they somehow always worked around my schedule, and made it a point to perform the work when I was not present.Nightly turn-down was excellent, as I found the room exactly as it was when I first entered it following check-in (minus my belongings, of course). Two chocolate pieces were placed on the nightstand with a handwritten note. Also of note was the hotel's welcoming gift to me, a bottle of champagne cooled by ice, along with two flutes for me to enjoy with a visiting friend. Location I felt the location was excellent. While the property itself, situated in Nob Hill, is surrounded by a quiet neighborhood, it's a stone's throw away from Union Square, which was filled with people and various sounds of music, chatter, and traffic.I made it a point to walk to Union Square each day, where I shopped and enjoyed people-watching. Other areas of San Francisco were easy to reach via Uber. Overall In conclusion, I would recommend The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco to those looking for a quiet getaway to San Francisco. You would be situated near the heart of the action without being bothered by its noise and lights 24-7, with excellent service and a comforting bed awaiting you should you be weary from the sightseeing action.
