How do you avoid potentially becoming ill while flying?

As we move into Q4 2018, and with a call from my GP’s surgery this morning inviting me in tomorrow for a flu jab, I’ve searched the thread titles in this forum using ‘cold’, ‘sick’, ‘illness’, ‘influenza’ and ‘germs’ - without finding a relevant thread.

On my BA BUD LHR flight last Monday somebody (I never identified who) within a few rows of where I was sitting was sneezing throughout the flight. The inevitable happened and I’ve spent the last four of five days with a cold and sore throat. This is far from being the first time I’ve had a cold, or even flu, within a couple of days of taking a flight - it’s happened too many times to pass it off as coincidence.

So, simple question - does anyone have a proven method of avoiding catching something from other passengers (I don’t go a bundle on wearing a face mask during a flight - and looking like a wally!). Thank you.
