I've been very fortunate with Delta to not have a critical cancelled flight, and also been fortunate that all surprise mechanical issues were resolved within 4 hours tops. But looking at FlightAware the other day, DL40 from SYD to LAX was cancelled in the past 2 weeks and I wonder how Delta would handle something like it. Naturally I ask because I have a flight coming up where this could be fairly catastrophic should I be unlucky.
Delta only flies once from Sydney, and partner VOZ likely wouldn't have seats available for accommodate all of Delta's B777 passengers. Would they reach out to Qantas or other US-based airlines? Or are people pretty much going to be forced to wait a day to get back to the US?
Well, I'd trust DL to do this better than UA and probably AA too. In any case, this is where having status with the airline really helps. If you are flying to Sydney at the airport when this happen, I would immediately rush to Sky Club and get someone with a clue to help you.
