I have a bad memory when it comes to these things, but I seem to remember being told that the value of the Platinum Companion Cert is $0, therefore while you may be able to pay the fare difference of $700, your companion would be priced at full fare value.
Obviously, the AX Reserve card comes with an F companion certificate.
That said, when I used a Platinum cert for my wife a few months back, we were both UGd to F on both legs.
