With 900 seats/day/each way in S19 Rome will firmly be the 4th European gateway for Air Canada after London (way bigger), Frankfurt (by far the most important Star Alliance HUB in Europe) and Paris.

It seems to me that a YVR-FCO addition in the future (sort of 3-4xw B788 service) would be the "logical" next step in case AC keeps expanding from Vancouver, just like they have done in the really recent past (with the introduction of Frankfurt, Dublin, Paris, Zurich).
