Try after the AF posts, and call during the week, when the A team of retention in South Dakota is available (if you can even get connected).

Maybe you should check out Barclays AA product - with that kind of spend I'd assume someone would be happy for the interchange.
Tried them again today. And the problem of being passed to retention is still there. The CSR told me there is an indicator on the screen saying if someone is eligible to be passed to retention or not, and it shows I'm not. Asked the CSR why and he said he can't know for sure, but maybe because I've gotten them waved on all three every year. For me, the three cards are really one from my standpoint. When we travel my wife will have one, me the other, and the third in the safe. That way if either one of us loses purse or wallet, we are still ok. And if we get robbed, we still have one available. They don't all *have* to be the AA Advantage Platinum Select, so I may very well allow two of them to downgrade, as long as that doesn't impact the age of the account. I was told the account # would change, but forgot to ask how it would be treated age wise. And yeah, opens up things to go ahead and look at other cards and programs.
