Flight cancelled - what are my options?
Hey everyone,
this will be long. And complicated. Let's go:
WHAT HAS HAPPENED
I have booked the following connection a few months ago with Lufthansa through a travel agent: MXP -> MUC -> SIN -> AKL -> HND -> FRA -> MXP. All flights are in business and for March of next year.
Meanwhile NZ91 from AKL to HND, leaving Auckland at 11pm, has been cancelled, my itinerary was updated with NZ95, which not only departs 14 hours later but also goes to Narita instead of Haneda.
WHAT MAKES IT HARDER TO SOLVE
To make it even more complicated, I had booked a feeder flight from CHC to AKL with NZ, which allowed for five hours connecting time in Auckland. That flight obviously does not fit my plans now anymore.
Plus, taking a train from Tokyo to Kyoto right after landing will be much more time consuming departing in NRT than it would have been from HND.
WHAT ARE REALISTIC OPTIONS?
Now my question: What kind of changes would NZ be willing to do in such a case? It won't be a problem to change my AKL - HND to a same day connection at 9am (NZ99), also arriving in NRT, says my travel agent.
But would they also be willing to take into account my feeder from CHC to AKL? Even the first flight from CHC on that day only allows for a two hour connection time in AKL. So it would be saver to have CHC - NRT on one ticket.
One step further would be asking them to substitute the cancelled AKL - HND to AKL - KIX. I would not have the problem with the train connection then, only with the short connection time in AKL.
Two steps further would be getting CHC - KIX on the ticket to solve all of my problems instantly.
All variations would cost less than any AKL - NRT connection as of today.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?
Sorry for all this information. But I am really looking forward to your opinion. Would you think that I can call them directly since the booking was done through a travel agent?
Thanks so much for helping me solve this puzzle!
