Yes (at least historically!) - I've always liked this aspect of Marriott's cash and points system. A few years ago I had some 2 night vacation stays in Sydney and Brisbane where I was able to use the points on the more expensive night and cash on the less expensive night; and I did a 6 night stay in Hong Kong this summer using 5 award nights (one being free) and choosing the cash night for the night with the lowest rate. Helpful for multi-night stays when there's high fluctuation in cash rates due to expos, conferences, events, etc.
