I was on the very first BA flight into Murcia and there was a water canon salute and big fuss when we got off the aircraft. I was also on the first flight into Almeria and all you could see was tumbleweed blowing across the apron and total indifference from the ground crew. Having flown in and out of that airport about 30 times it came as no surprise really.
