I am not sure when the change happened, but I stayed in Sheraton Taipei in September 2017 and August 2018... I suspect the carpet change was done in between my two stays and to be honest the carpet was a non-issue in both stays. Granted, if I only stay a handful number of nights in a specific hotel per year (3 nights in 2018 and 7 nights in 2017) then indeed it's nothing close to being a second home and I would not tend to notice these issues as much as you did. But I know what you mean. I have stayed several times at Millenium Hilton Bangkok for several years and when they renovated the rooms this year I immediately felt the rooms shrunk and were smaller due to wasting space in several spots, which led to disappointment on my part. Occasional guests would probably have not felt it immediately like I did, as soon as I entered the room for the first time post reno.
