I, too, have found that FHR rates are better at least half of the time, especially for Las Vegas. I go to conventions in Vegas often, and if I book 3 or 4 nights (including a Fri and Sat night) I can typically get the FHR rate for $179 a night @ Bellagio (when the rooms are typically $299-399 on weekend nights).
